How-to

Read the insights timeline

Use the Timeline tab to see your insights next to the raw events they draw on, and the evidence behind each insight.

The Timeline tab of Insights shows, day by day, the insights added in a period next to the raw events around them, so you can see what each insight is based on.

  1. Select Insights in the navigation rail.
  2. Select the Timeline tab.

The page shows, from top to bottom:

  • Events in range — the number of events in the period, with the change against the previous period. Event mix and By type split that number by event type. Select How aggregation works for a short explanation of how events are grouped.
  • A bar with four counts: Insights raised (with how many are still open), Aggregated rows, Sparse events, and Evidence links.
  • The stream: one block per day, newest first.

Each day lists its insights first, as cards, and then its raw events as rows. The timeline knows five event types:

Event type How it appears
AI mentions One row per day with the total number of brand mentions.
AI citations One row per day with the total number of domain citations.
SERP movements One row per day with the total number of position changes.
Social posts One row per post, with its time.
Website changes One row per change, with the number of pages added, removed, and modified.

AI mentions, AI citations, and SERP movements happen in large numbers, so each type is grouped into one row per day, marked throughout the day. Select Expand on such a row to see the breakdown behind the total, and Collapse to close it again.

An insight is placed on the day it was added. Days follow UTC.

If a period has no events, the page shows Nothing happened in this window. If a period holds more individual events than the page can list, it shows only the newest ones; narrow the date range to see older ones.

  1. On an insight card, select Evidence (the button shows the number of evidence items).
  2. The card unfolds into Evidence behind this insight: the events the insight draws on, each with its date. In the stream, the rows for those events are highlighted.
  3. Select an evidence item to scroll the stream to its row. An item whose event is not in the stream — outside the period, or filtered out — is shown as a description only.
  4. Select Evidence again to fold the list away.

An insight without linked events shows No evidence is linked to this insight.

  • Select Apply on an open insight card to apply it in one step.
  • Select Postpone or Reject, or the insight’s title, to open its detail view. Postponing and rejecting ask for a reason or a note there, exactly as on the List tab. See Review and act on insights.

An insight that is no longer open shows its status instead of the buttons.

Use the filter bar above the timeline:

Filter Effect
Date range The period to show. The default is Last 30 days.
Channel Narrows both the insights and the events to the chosen channels.
Event types Narrows the events only. Insights stay visible even when their evidence type is filtered out.

Select Clear all to reset every filter. When you switch from the List tab, the timeline keeps the date range and channel filters; the status, priority, and postpone filters do not apply here.
